Set your standards high…

When the quality of your life is the end result, raise the standard on the choices made today. Why cheap out on something little bit hard today if it means later paying dearly for those results. A shortcut on something important, cheating on a detail… can ruin the whole project! Several times I have been asked with surprise if I really have never had an alcoholic drink. It’s construed as somehow having missed out on a lot of fun. I think it is a series of small but important choices? My own uncle died as a wretched alcoholic, scamming, stealing and writing fraud checks on his mother’s estate, to support his habit. I remember as a teen the legal drinking age being 21, but somewhere along the line it became clear to me that “Wine is a mocker” (Proverbs 20:1) One inquirer commented that it would have saved him a lot of cash if he’d never started. I could never understand the fun of the headaches the day after, or not knowing what happened. But what got me the worst was how “a little drink” never stays little matter. The broken promises, betrayed trust, financial disasters and broken marriages even fatalities that started with a just social drink, “a night out on the town” or just having some fun with friends. Drinking is not the sin of damnation– but still, “Wine is a mocker” and that quote has thousands of years to back it.

Do it with ZEST ...

More than just living, dragging one foot after the other, life is designed to be inspiring, challenging, fulfilling and productive.

I turned 55 today, life has so much in store as I anticipate what awaits my next steps of adventure. The center of my enthusiasm is the hope I get from a personal and growing relationship with God. Like being married to my wife now almost 30 years, the longer I've known her the more I love her. God each day is becoming a much more significant factor in my daily sense of direction, joy and purpose. If there is one thing that stands out it would be that a relationship with God is a two way street. I can't do all the asking and He do all the givin'... When He asks something from me it is mighty important to be quick to be a listen'...
